Month of April Blind Date with a YA Book Winner

Congratulations to the winner of the Blind Date with a YA Book Winner, Theola!

After emailing Theola, she asked me to post a picture of the book without the brown craft cover because she's just too curious and anxious to wait to see what book she's won. So, here it is:

And as promised, it's a signed edition.

Not gonna lie, I wanted to keep this book for myself.  The story concept is far to intriguing to pass up. But don't take my word for it. Read the back cover blurb...

Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron

  • Hardcover: 384 pages
  • Publisher: Viking Books for Young Readers
  • Language: English

Love can be a real monster.
Sixteen-year-old Boy’s never left home.  When you’re the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride, it’s tough to go out in public, unless you want to draw the attention of a torch-wielding mob.  And since Boy and his family live in a secret enclave of monsters hidden under Times Square, it’s important they maintain a low profile.
Boy’s only interactions with the world are through the Internet, where he’s a hacker extraordinaire who can hide his hulking body and stitched-together face behind a layer of code.  When conflict erupts at home, Boy runs away and embarks on a cross-country road trip with the granddaughters of Jekyll and Hyde, who introduce him to malls and diners, love and heartbreak. But no matter how far Boy runs, he can’t escape his demons—both literal and figurative—until he faces his family once more.
This hilarious, romantic, and wildly imaginative tale redefines what it means to be a monster—and a man.

Keep an eye out for the Month of May's Blind Date with a Book Giveway, coming soon!

@Kickstarter Campaign is live and needs love

Once upon a time, three authors, Amy Miles, Rochelle Maya Callen, and Nely Cab, dreamed of having a cinematic book trailer of their books produced. One very brave man by the name of Dan Baker waved his hand to the air, and said, "By golly,  it can be done!" Okay, maybe those weren't his exact words. But I'm happy to announce that Dan along with the team at Timid Monster Films will be producing all three book trailers!

Timid Monster has produced award winning book trailers for names such as Kristen Inger Inversen (Few are Angels) and most recently a short film based on Cameo Renae's ARV 3

We need to raise funds to reach our production goal by May 14. 2015. Quality films—even the short ones, like book trailers—take a lot of time, energy, and money to come to fruition. Before production can begin, we need to be sure that we can afford actors, filming gear, a crew, props, actors, etc. Having backed several projects on Kickstarter myself, I've seen firsthand how hard it is to reach each campaign goal. This is why we need your help.

You can read about the project on the Kickstarter page. You can help us by sharing the campaign and telling your friends and family about it. Every share and dollar is a step closer to achieving our goal. I thank you on behalf of Amy, Rochelle, Timid Monster, and myself.

XO,
Nely

Open for a terrifying and sexy ride on the Road to Hell...

NOW

Victory is hollow when fate maneuvers one as a pawn.

Madison’s mission is complete. Nis is rescued from Hell and her son safe from his dark destiny. But in the safe harbor of Nix’s love, her demonic husband warns of a murderous plot. Can she trust that it’s the truth and not another scheme to claim her for Hell’s throne?

Sometimes internal struggles can house our biggest demons.

With allies divided and prophecy heralding defeat, Madison gambles on Micah’s tenuous honor to keep their son protected. Torn between her heart’s desires and her dark requirements, Madison worries her hellish fate cannot be avoided. When betrayal comes from an unlikely direction, all their futures may be damned. In the darkest hour of Madison’s life, an undeniable providence will transpire. Who can she trust? And how far will she fall to defeat her foes?

Amid the rubble of defeat will Hell’s Genesis Queen dawn?

“I like the way you move, kitten.”
She took a deep breath, like she needed the extra oxygen to deal with him. “Did you square away the angels in Hell?”
“Yes.” Details weren’t necessary when they both knew he’d instituted a brutal torture regimen for all of them. “Dance with me?”
“To this music?”
“You didn’t appear to be having any problem.” He held his hand out toward her.
She stared at his palm. Her expression was reminiscent of an individual confident selling their soul was a reckless choice but entering the deal anyway.
“I don’t bite.”
Her gaze felt like an impact against his. “You did in Hell.”
He wrangled the grin under control. “Then I won’t bite.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea, Micah.”
“Why?”
A casual shrug when nothing about her body language suggested she felt relaxed. She crossed her arms beneath her breasts. “Nix says my idea of dancing is sex with clothes on. He couldn’t tolerate it and if he couldn’t….” She trailed off and gaped at him as if she’d just realized she’d been about to insult him.
Micah grinned. “I haven’t lived as long as I have without executing restraint.” He stepped closer to her. “I’ve controlled myself with you more than any other.” Because she is my woman and deserves my respect.
Madison allowed him to pull her arms free of their defensive fold. Holding her gaze, Micah coaxed her into his embrace…left hip to left hip, his leg thrusting between her knees, gliding upward and parting her thighs.
She bit her bottom lip. Her breathing grew shallow. The heavy beat of the music thumped around them. His pulse throbbed faster.
Hell’s delights, she felt fantastic against him.
“Relax,” he said when she remained inflexible. A soft wind would break one of her bones. “I only want to dance with you.” Like when they’d been married, just a different manner of movement. This one more intimate than what they normally partook.
Her focus locked on his jaw, and she sharply inhaled when he slid his palm down her back and settled on her hips. He executed the first moves and she followed. As if magnetized, they gyrated in perfect synchronicity.

Blind Date with a Book Giveaway!

Hello!

I've been thinking of something fun to do for you that involves books. A while ago, I saw a shelf on a library that displayed completely covered books. They called it the "Blind Date with a Book Shelf". I thought it was a really neat idea. It gave readers a chance to pick up a book without judging the cover and discover a new author in the process. The only problem I saw was that it didn't disclose the genre.

Well, I've decided to do my own twist of the "Blind Date with a Book Shelf", but my version involves a giveaway.  I'll disclose the genre of each book, but not the author or title, so that you can choose if you'd like to enter the giveaway daily or not. Hopefully, I can do this every month. For the month of April, my featured genre is Young Adult. By the way, this is not my book. And if it was, I wouldn't tell you. HA! But I will tell you it might be traditional or might be indie. I guess that was no help, huh? But if I told you, then we'd lose all the anticipation. Why don't I just show you the book?

This is the book:

And this is where you can enter daily to win:

Dude, what happened to your books?

Hello Readers and Curious Passersby!

I have news...

My books have been unpublished. Yes, you read that right. They are no longer available. The reason? Under amicable terms, I've parted ways with Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing, so they are no longer accessible under the CHBB imprint. I thank CHBB for their support while I was part of their author family and wish them luck in all their endeavors.

So where can I buy your books now?

About that... If you're looking for my e-books or books, I'm sorry, but it'll be a while before you see them on sale again. Aside from the few print books left in my office and the last print batch left on Amazon, there are no more.

BUT WHY?!

For good reason!  I am proud to announce that I've accepted a publishing contract with Clean Teen Publishing, who will be releasing the series under one of their imprints. A date has not yet been set for release, but rest assured I will keep you updated. The last full-length novel in the series will be released under their imprint as well.

However, the Audible version of Creatura is and will remain on sale.

Thanks for your continued support. I'll get back to you with news about release dates.

x,
Nely

Wolves of the Northern Rift by Jon Messenger: GIVEAWAY

photo Wolves of the Northern Rift Tour Banner.png

 photo Wolves-of-the-Northern-Rift.jpg
Title:  Wolves of the Northern Rift
Series:  Magic and Machinery #1
Author:  Jon Messenger
Published:   March 10th, 2015
Publisher:  Crimson Tree Publishing
Genre:  Steampunk
Content Warning:  Non-graphic gore/violence
Recommended Age:  16+
Synopsis:  In a world of science, magic is an abomination.
Magic is an abomination. It spread from the Rift, a great chasm hundreds of miles long that nearly split the southern continent in two. The Rift was a portal, a gateway between their world of science and the mythological world of magic .
On the northern continent of Ocker, King Godwin declared that no magical monstrosity would be allowed within their borders. The Royal Inquisitors were formed to investigate reports of mystical occurrences and, should they be found, to destroy them.
Inquisitor Simon Whitlock knows his responsibilities all too well. Along with the apothecary, Luthor Strong, they've spent two years inquiring into such reports of magical abominations, though they've discovered far more charlatans than true magical creatures. When assigned to investigate Haversham and its reports of werewolves, Simon remains unconvinced that the rumors are true. What he discovers in the frozen little hamlet is that the werewolves are far more real than he believed; yet they’re hardly the most dangerous monster in the city.
Amazon | Barnes & Noble | GoodReads

Excerpt:
Simon stepped into the hallway and pulled his door closed. He reached across the divide and straightened Luthor’s tie, which hung askew from the center of his neck. As he straightened the tie, he caught a scent of something foul in the air. He wrinkled his nose and glanced over his friend’s shoulder.

“Do you smell that? It’s atrocious. It’s a mixture of spoiled milk and gangrene. Please tell me that isn’t coming from your room.”

Luthor blushed slightly and looked over his shoulder. “I accidentally broke one of my vials when I was unpacking. It’s an unpleasant scent, to be sure.”

Simon frowned. “Please don’t tell me that was one of the liquids in that foul brew you gave me on the zeppelin.”

Luthor pushed his glasses back up his nose but remained silent.

“Luthor?” Simon asked, arching his brow inquisitively. “It wasn’t, was it?”

When the apothecary didn’t reply, Simon threw up his hands in disgust and stormed down the hall.

“In my defense,” Luthor said as he hurried to catch up, “you told me not to tell you.”

“I swear that you’re trying to poison me. You slip these terrible concoctions into my drinks just to kill me slowly.”

“There are actually indigenous tribes along the far eastern shores that intentionally ingest poisons in an attempt to build a resistance to the natural venoms that exist in their flora and fauna. Despite a wide spread acceptance of the practice, only a very small percentage of them actually die.”

“You find the most remarkable ways to try to defend your inane actions,” Simon said. “I’m not an indigenous tribesman from the eastern shore. Please stop trying to poison me.”

“I’d never poison you without your knowledge,” Luthor said before reconsidering his word choice.

“I guess I should be pleased that my friends will stab me in the face, rather than stabbing me in the back.”

~ Synopsis ~

All Blythe Sol ever wanted was to be a normal girl. Yet, her dreams of following in her father’s footsteps by joining the military after graduation are crushed when nuclear war comes to the United States in the year 4006. Tens of thousands are killed in a series of attacks on many major cities, while thousands more are left injured from the devastation of the blasts, or terminally ill from the effects of radiation.
When the government offers the sick and injured a second chance as part of the Restoration Project, how could they refuse? Hoping to put her life back together after the blasts take both her arm and her eye, Blythe enrolls in the program filled with hope. She never expects that the bionic additions will change her life so drastically. When it is discovered that those outfitted with the robotic parts have become enhanced beyond the limits of ordinary human ability, normal can never exist for her again.
The Bionics become targets of the government, as fear of them spreads across the nation, further enflamed by media propaganda and political conspiracy. Forced to go into hiding or face execution, society’s outcasts band together to form the Restoration Resistance—an underground rebellion which Blythe becomes a part of in order to survive. She could never imagine that joining them would thrust her at the forefront of an imminent revolution, or that it would put her in a confusing tug-of-war between two of her fellow soldiers—Gage Bronson, the mysterious new addition to the Resistance, and Dax Janner, her best friend. Even though Gage is rapidly capturing her heart, she is forced to face the possibility that her feelings for Dax might just go beyond friendship. However, with impending war and the threat of death hanging over her head, Blythe hardly has time to worry about anything as trivial as a love life…

~ Excerpt ~

When the airstrip comes into view, I know that we’re in deep shit. Jenica, Blythe, and the Professor haven’t even made it to the craft yet and are ducked down behind a row of hover bikes, taking cover. I can see our hijacked government craft several hundred yards away, its guns raised and swiveling on their turrets as Dax and Sayer try to help us pick off the MPs one by one. It is an impossible task—there are too many of them. The smart thing to do is run, but I know Dax won’t leave without the others. As I weigh my options as quickly as possible, I realize that there is no way we’re getting out of this together. I start across the tarmac, gun in one hand, raising my COMM device with the other.
“Janner!” I bark as Dax as I make a beeline for a craft parked on the other end of the airstrip. With so much manpower concentrated on the others, this craft is unguarded. I’ve never piloted a hovercraft in my life and what little I do know has come from watching Jenica at the controls, but I can’t think about that now. The MPs are closing in on Blythe and the others and there is nowhere for them to run. “Do you know how to fly one of these things?”
Dax’s voice—or rather, Sergeant Barnes’ voice—crackles over the speaker. “Not that particular model, but Strom does. What are you thinking, Bronson?”
“I’m thinking you need to get out of here and get our rescued prisoners home,” I say as I reach the hovercraft and proceed to climb up toward the closed hatch, all the while praying that it is unlocked.
“That’s a negative, Bronson,” Dax answers, yelling to be heard over the sound of gunfire. “We’re not leaving without our team intact.”
“That’s not exactly an option,” I answer, trying the hatch and find it open. I quickly scramble inside. “We’re going to have to split up. Put Strom on the line and tell him I need a five-minute piloting lesson. I’m going for Jenica, the Professor, and Blythe.”
Dax hesitates for a split second before I hear his heavy sigh over the speaker. “You’d better not get them killed,” he grumbles, and I can picture him grudgingly handling the COMM device to Sayer. “Or I will seriously kick your ass.”
“If I don’t do something, we’re screwed either way,” I retort before Sayer comes on the line.
“Strom here.”
“Strom, give me the basics,” I say as I run up the hovercraft’s center aisle and find the pilot’s chair. Rows of foreign buttons, gauges and screens line the panel in front of me. I watch through the window while the space between Jenica, Blythe and the Professor and the MPs grows smaller. I don’t have much time.
“See that clear plastic box to your right near the throttle?” Sayer asks over the COMM device.
I nod. “Yeah.”
“Pop it open and flip that red switch.”
I do as he says and immediately the hum of the hovercraft tells me it’s turned on. “Done.”
“There’s a series of silver switches to your left.”
I locate them. “Yeah, there are six of them.”
“Those control your elevation. Each one will lift you higher into the air. Flip the first two and that’ll get you high enough that you’re flying but still low enough to swoop down and grab Jenica, Blythe, and Professor Hinkley.”
I quickly follow his instructions and the hovercraft jolts as I flip the two switches, then it ascends, hovering several feet over the ground.
“Now what?” I ask, dropping into the pilot’s chair and fastening the harness. My hands shake as I grip the throttle.
“Fly,” Sayer answers before the connection is cut.
