Post #RT2014 Con #Books and Swag #Giveaway

This year I was lucky enough to attend the RT Convention in New Orleans. I had so much fun meeting, speaking, and hanging out with a whole bunch of rockstars, including +Kathryn Grimes, +sara humphreys, Jennilynh Dinh, +Gracen Miller , +Quinn Loftis , A.M. Hargrove,  mother-son duo, Adam and Carol Kunz, Tiffany King, +Michelle Johnson, +E L James , +Jennifer Armentrout, +Dete Meserve, +Kes Trester, +Cora Carmack, Mark Henry, Lisa Burstein, +Rachel Caine, +Sylvia Day...and the list goes on and on.

If you've never been to RT and you love books, you should consider going at least once in your life. The energy and enthusiasm can be felt everywhere and everyday during the convention. There are informative and helpful panels for bloggers, authors, readers, librarians, and bookstore vendors, social events, parties... And the best part of the convention is...you'll never believe this....you get tons of free stuff. That's right, FREE! I got so many books (two copies of some) and swag that I had to send some home with Tsk Tsk What to Read Blogger, +Kathryn Grimes, for safe keeping until +utopYA (June 19-22) rolls around. Yes, I'll be attending that even in Nashville, too. I'll be sure to update you on it.

So let me tell you about the free stuff; I had SO much that my suitcase was ripping at the seams and when I got to the airport my suitcase was over the weight limit. I had to take all the books and swag out and put it in my carry on bag, which was so heavy that my arm is still sore from lugging it around through three airports. Then, I got home and I emptied the contents of my carry on and I saw all the awesomeness in this pile:

I said, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to share the awesome with my readers who weren't able to attend RT?" And then I answered myself—because having a one person conversation is normal for me—and I said, "Yes, it would be cool to share." Then I had another idea, "And why don't I do 3 separate giveaway bundles for it?" To which I replied to myself, "That's an excellent idea!"

So here you have it folks, a giveaway for 3 randomly assorted bundles of books and swag for 3 lucky winners....And you're welcome.

It’s not easy creating life, but that’s what Deus was meant to do. And as amazing as his new creations may be, Deus finds that there’s nothing wonderful about being the only person in existence. Using his power, he molds a companion to keep him company; only, something goes awry and Starr soon proves to be as wild as the animals he’s crafted.

What do you do when the only other person in the universe hates you? You fall in love, of course…because that’s how forever begins.

EXCERPT

A few weeks ago, before coming to Terra, I noticed that Starr began to look older, more mature…and fuller.  I believe I’m different, also. I’m not the person I was at the beginning, and no longer am I a boy. My body has grown, and Starr’s body has definitely grown in some places. I know I stare at her too much, but now, it’s not because I’m wondering what she’s thinking; it’s because I’m awfully aware of what she looks like.

The things we’ve learned by visiting the future together have made us both mature. The more we see, the more we age. When we visit future Earth I show Starr both wonderful things and not so wonderful things, like wars and famine. But unlike before, when she didn’t take notice of anything, now she cries when she sees the unpleasant times the future holds, and I feel horrible for showing her. But the Voice of Reason says it’s the only way to educate us, and I let it be.

For a while I was worried, but contrary to my initial belief, Starr is very bright. She’s learned to use her hands to craft things and to sew extremely well. She makes her own dresses now, and I provide her with the fabric, needles and thread. For days she’s been trying her hand at spinning wool with a small contraption called a spindle that we saw on one of our visits to the future. She asked me to create it for her here, but instead of making the object appear out of thin air, I made it for her using wood from one of the fallen forest trees. Maybe someday she’ll make a garment for me using the strings she spins, but I’d be happier and a lot relieved if first, she’d make herself a bra.

About the Author:
Cinta Garcia de la Rosa is a Spanish writer who has loved the written word since she discovered she was able to read books at age 5. Since then, she has become a bookworm and reads around 100 books every year. She also writes, every day, compulsively, even in the middle of the night. You cannot control when inspiration hits you, can you? She writes in English because she is convinced that in a previous life she was British, so writing in English feels more natural to her than writing in her native language. Yes, she is crazy like that. Cinta Garcia is the author of "The Funny Adventures of Little Nani", a collection of short stories for children, and "A Foreigner in London", a short story published on Smashwords.

From “Little Nani and the Flying Muffin” by Cinta Garcia de la Rosa

“I’m bored!”
“How can you say that you are bored when I am reading to you one of the funniest books I have read in a long time?” said Horse in an exasperated tone. When Little Nani shrugged her shoulders, Horse had retreated to his favourite rocking chair in a corner of the room.
“Can I go out and make angels?” asked Little Nani, who was upside down, standing on her hands.
“Don’t be silly. You can only make angels in the snow, not in the rain,” said Horse without raising his eyes from the book.
“Can I go out and jump in the pools?” asked Little Nani, who was hopscotching all over the room.
“If you go out you will get soaking wet, and then you will catch a bad cold, and then you won’t be able to go out for a long time,” said the impatient horse. He didn’t like being interrupted while reading.
“Then I will cast a spell to make the sun come back,” said Little Nani, trying to take her magic wand out of her pocket while rolling on the floor. Big Billy, watching her efforts to take her magic wand out, and fearing that Little Nani could make the rain turn into a tempest, quickly pecked Little Nani’s hand.
“Ouch!” exclaimed Little Nani. “That hurt!”
She tried once more to take her magic wand from her pocket, but this time it was Skinny Nikki who pecked Little Nani’s hand.
“Ouch!” exclaimed Little Nani again.
It was pretty clear by now to Little Nani that she wasn’t going to have any fun that day. She thought that the rain was boring and, folding her arms with an angry look, she sat down in a corner.

Genre:  YA Science Fiction Fantasy
Recommended Age:  13+

Synopsis:
Hidden in the fabric of our own galaxy are five planets, anchored to Earth and thriving with life. When young Adaminia walks through a doorway and onto another planet, she learns the truth about her destiny. She must locate the other six warriors and unite their shared power in order to fight off the growing darkness set to destroy their existence.

About the Author:
Lagos has written poetry, stage plays, screenplays and short stories for over 20 years. In addition to
writing the Beyond
Earth Series she also has twelve award-winning short stories published in the Giant Tales anthology. "Beyond Earth" is Book one of the series. "Beyond Planets" and "Beyond Time" will be coming out later this summer. Lagos currently resides in Massachusetts with her husband and their daughter.

R E V I E W

When Adaminia turns the knob to a door that seems to call out to her, she never expects it to be the doorway into another world. She meets new people and runs into old friends that she never expected to meet again. As the story progresses, Adaminia finds out that her life is a lot more complicated than having a mentally unstable aunt to care for. What will happen on Adaminia's journey as she finds that the fate of humanity is in her hands?

Arlene Lagos has written a Sci-fi adventure that brings together forces of good and evil, battling to take over the worlds she has so vividly portrayed in this story. The scenes are well imagined and the characters keep true to their personalities. I can't wait to read book two and find out what happens next in Arlene Lagos's Beyond Earth Series.
